Gerald David King, age 57, of Waynesboro, was arrested on Sunday, June 30 on charges of theft of property over $10,000 and two counts of passing worthless checks over $2,500. The report filed by Lt. Jeremy Staggs of the Waynesboro Police Department stated that on May 22, 2023, King alleged deposited a check in the amount of $8,500 into his Wayne County Bank checking account. The check was written on a Wells Fargo account belonging to King. The check was returned to Wayne County Bank due to insufficient funds. This type of fraud is known as “check kiting.” As of May 31, 2023, King was allegedly $2,873.98 in the negative with WCB. King was arrested and booked into the Wayne County Jail on $45,000.00 bond.
