Longtime Soccer Coach Harvey Baker was honored last Tuesday night when the Waynesboro soccer fields were named in his honor. Coach Harvey has shown unwavering dedication to Wayne County soccer and has positively influenced many of our young men and women over the years.

Coach Harvey has worked tirelessly over the past several years to create the Wayne County soccer program. The sport of soccer was never thought of in our county until Coach Harvey decided to get a soccer team going for any and all Wayne County kids that were interested, both boys and girls. He worked with the Waynesboro City Commission to get lights installed at the soccer fields, a project that was eventually funded by a grant awarded to the city. The soccer fields at the Waynesboro Sportsplex are now used practically year-round by young soccer players and the WCHS/CHS soccer team.

Coach Harvey Baker is certainly deserving of this honor, and he will undoubtedly be the backbone of Wayne County soccer for many years to come.
