The deadline has officially passed for potential candidates to file their papers for the upcoming election, and several have qualified to be on the ballot on Thursday, August 1st, 2024. The August election will be a State and Federal Primary, but will be a General Election for Wayne County and the City of Waynesboro.

The only county offices up for election this year are Property Assessor, five School Board members, and Circuit Judge Part V-District 22.

Dustin T. White, incumbent Wayne County Property Assessor, is the only qualifying candidate for that office.

The District 1 School Board Member position currently held by Andy Yarbrough only had one candidate, Drew Turman, to qualify. Mr. Yarbrough has chosen not to run again for the seat in the August election.

Charity Treadwell Horton is running unopposed to retain her District 3 seat on the School Board. Also qualifying and running unopposed to retain their seats on the board are Debbie Brown, District 4; Camryn Eaton, District 6; and Amanda Gatlin Van Fleet, District 7.

The City of Waynesboro has two seats on the City Commission coming up in the August election. The only candidates who qualified are incumbents Jeff Davis and Lynn Warren, so they will be unopposed on the August ballot.

Only one candidate, Julie Carrell Heffington, qualified for the Circuit Judge Part V-District 22 seat.
