Suspect Arrested on Multiple Charges Following Traffic Stop

Timothy William Witherington, age 44, of Toone, TN, was arrested on multiple charges on Monday, October 30. The report filed by former Investigator, now Police Chief Steve Wilson of the Clifton Police Department stated that on March 9, 2019, he attempted to perform a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Witherington on West Pillow Street/Highway 128 East. Witherington was operating a Ford Thunderbird allegedly with loud exhaust, and he failed to maintain his lane of travel. Witherington allegedly had two passengers in the vehicle. When Inv. Wilson attempted to stop Witherington with his lights and sirens, Witherington allegedly fled at a high rate of speed from the main intersection, dangerously passing three vehicles. When Witherington was finally forced to stop his vehicle after sliding off the roadway, he allegedly fled on foot to escape apprehension. When Witherington was finally located and arrested on October 30, he was arrested on five counts of reckless endangerment and one count each of reckless driving, driving on a revoked/suspended license, failure to maintain lane, muffler violation, and failure to yield to blue lights. Witherington was booked into the Wayne County Jail on $54,000.00 bond.
