Clifton Man Arrested on Assault and Handgun Charges

   Wesley Carroll Prater, age 48, of Clifton was arrested on Monday, May 4th on charges of aggravated assault and possession of a handgun while under the influence of alcohol. Deputy Dillon Allen filed a report stating that he was dispatched to 5856 Beech Creek Road in reference to possible shots fired. Upon his arrival at the location, Deputy Allen made contact with Prater, who was reportedly standing in the driveway of the residence with a handgun holstered on his side. Prater allegedly stated that two individuals had stopped in the roadway and fired shots at him, so he returned fire. Two witnesses allegedly stated that Prater had walked into the roadway and fired three to five shots toward them and the other two individuals. Prater was arrested and booked into the Wayne County Jail on $52,500.00 bond.
