Martha Pearl Lloyd Prater graced this world on April 10, 1937, in Corinth, MS, born to the loving embrace of Thomas Allen and Hilda Inez Stewart Lloyd. In a ceremony of unity and love in May 1962, she became the cherished companion of Connie H. Prater, Sr., who walked ahead into eternity on July 27, 1994. Martha’s culinary talents shone brightly during her years as a cook at the Frank Hughes School.
A woman of faith and community, Martha found purpose in her memberships at Clifton Church of Christ, Eastern Star, and Wayne County Republican Women’s Club. These connections brought her joy and fulfillment throughout her journey.
On February 22, 2024, in Waynesboro, TN, Martha embarked on her next great adventure at the age of 86 years, 10 months, and 12 days.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Timothy Dewayne Prater of Clifton, TN; Connie H. Prater, Jr. (Mary) of Clifton, TN; Allen Kirk Prater of Clifton, TN; stepdaughter Glenda Nickell (Skip) of Columbia, TN; grandchildren: Katie Elizabeth Prater, Teresa Holtsford, Carlton Risner, and Shane Risner; and great-grandchildren: Tea’ Faith Risner, Coty, and Chaz.
In addition to her husband and parents, Martha was preceded in death by daughter, Martha Jane Foster; sister, Virginia Lloyd; and brother, Thomas Irwin Lloyd.
Funeral services were held on Monday, February 26, 2024 at 2:00pm at Prater’s Chapel with Brant Sanders officiating. Burial was in Prater’s Chapel Cemetery with Shackelford Funeral Directors assisting the family.
