   Lucretia “Chris” Carol Smith, 77, of Matthews, NC, passed away on Monday, August 2, 2021 at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center.

   Chris was born on February 14, 1944 in Linden, TN, daughter to the late Wesson Ledbetter Grinder and Ocie Mildred Harder Grinder. She graduated from Wayne County High School in Tennessee in 1961. Chris married her beloved late husband Tony Max Smith on November 9, 1963 and was married for 36 years at the time of his passing. She previously lived in Nashville, TN; Huntsville, AL; Kinston, NC; Houston, TX; and Pensacola, FL before making Matthews, NC her home. Chris retired on August 29, 2019 from Living Church

of God in Reception and RIS Department after 10 years of dedicated service.

   She loved playing basketball, and lettered all four years on her High School (WCHS) basketball team. Later in life, she enjoyed collecting family vintage Shawnee Corn collection glassware, and Fostoria glassware. She also enjoyed traveling and visiting new locations and different countries as well as researching her family ancestry.
   Chris was baptized on September 28, 1968 (Worldwide Church of God) and attended Global/Living Church of God until her death, having been a baptized member of the church 52 years.

   She is survived by her loving son Mark Devin Smith; her brother Randall Grinder; sisters-in-law Dot Grinder (Nelson) and Saundra Grinder (Brenton); and nephews and niece Gary Grinder, Cindy DelGiorno, Brenton Grinder, Jr. and Patrick Grinder. In addition she had four grand-nieces and two grand-nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Chris is also preceded in death by her brothers Nelson Grinder and Brenton Grinder.

   Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at 1:00 PM in the Weddington Chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with the family receiving friends immediately following at the funeral home.
