Mrs. Lillian Horton Montgomery was born to George Luther and Leona Sherrill Horton on Tuesday, February 6, 1923, in Cypress Inn, Tennessee. Mrs. Lillian married Lee Olis Montgomery on Saturday, February 22, 1941. He preceded her in death on Tuesday, March 17, 1987. She passed away at her home in Lutts, TN on Friday, September 25, 2020, at the age of 97 years 7 months and 19 days.
She was a member of the Scotts Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Cypress Inn, TN. Lillian loved her flowers and gardens and she was an accomplished quilter. Her cooking skills, especially for coconut cakes and other desserts, were very much loved and appreciated by her family and friends. Using her weed eater was one of her favorite things to do and she always said she had rather be working outside than in the house. She was a seamstress, retiring from Angelica Manufacturing Company in Collinwood, TN after more than 31 years.
Mrs. Lillian is survived by her sons, George (G.L.) Montgomery and wife, Marianne of Athens, Alabama and Donnie Montgomery and wife, Brenda of Killen, Alabama; her daughter, Melba Montgomery and David Stooksberry of Lutts, TN; and her daughter-in-law, Judy Montgomery of Collinwood, TN. She is also survived by her grandsons, Ricky Montgomery, Dwayne Montgomery and wife, Cherie, Keith Montgomery, Tony Montgomery and Paul Montgomery and wife, Amanda and her granddaughters, Tina Leatherwood, Cyndi Keeton and husband, Micheal, Sheri Hudson and Kala Eaton and husband, Jonathan and her great-grandchildren, Morgan, Joanna, Zach, Alleyna, Kelsi, Bryndyn, Kathryn, Ashlyn, Hattan, Audrey, Lillian, Emily, Nealy, Zaylee, Brody, Hunter, Addysyn, Jaxon, Bo, Bear and Hazel. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Lucille Barkley and her sisters-in-law, Betty Horton, Ophelia Horton and Yvonne Horton and her brother-in-law, Gene Montgomery, along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Bobby; her great-granddaughters, Britny, Alexandria and Katelyn and her brothers, Howard Horton, Raymond Horton, Otha Horton, Leland Horton and Billy Horton.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lillian were held on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at 3 pm at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel, Collinwood, TN. Services were officiated by Junior Overstreet and Bob Rich with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County assisting her family. Pallbearers were Keith Montgomery, Tony Montgomery, Paul Montgomery, Danny Montgomery, Stacey Vickery and Randy Horton. Honorary pallbearers were Kenny Horton, Steve Barkley, Coty Vickery, Ricky Montgomery and Dwayne Montgomery. Visitation was from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home in Collinwood, TN.
