Leland Larry Carpenter of Lutts, Tennessee was born on April 14, 1945 in Town Creek, Alabama, the son of the late Lelon and Glenice Jeffery Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter was an auto-body worker at Carpenter’s Body Shop. He was a member of the Bevis Church of Christ and enjoyed tinkering on lawnmowers and small engines. Mr. Carpenter departed this life on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Wayne Medical Center in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 25 days.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Carpenter of Lutts, TN; a son, Ronnie Carpenter, wife, Sherry of Birmingham, AL; sisters, Rita White, husband, Ricky of Florence, AL, Sherlene Keil of Madison, AL; five grandchildren, Bo Smith, Andy Smith, Zack Smith, Jana Risner, husband, Wes and BJ Carpenter, wife, Kailey; five great-grandchildren, Braysen Carpenter, Carley Jo Carpenter, Bryce Risner, Seth Risner and Maddie Grace Risner; special nieces and nephews, Jenny, Gracy, Hannah, Wayne, Harley, Alli, Saban, Ashley, Bentley, Grady, and Heather; mother-in-law, Mary Evelyn Copeland; brothers-in-law, Jerry Copeland and Larry Copeland, wife, Sherry and sister-in-law, Lisa Holt, husband, Keith. In addition to his parents, Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Grisham and brothers, Cecil and Donald Carpenter.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel in Collinwood, TN with Wayne Wood and Dennis Oakley officiating. Burial was in the Murphy’s Chapel Cemetery at Florence, AL with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne Co. assisting the family.
