   Laverne Gallaher Griggs was born August 21, 1935 in Wayne County, TN to the union of the late Forrest Cole and Willodean Moore Griggs. He was united in marriage to the former Lula Marie Martin on March 12, 1955. Together they faithfully served in ministry together for over forty years as pastor and pastor’s wife where they served four Wayne County Churches. Mrs. Griggs preceded him in death on October 9, 2022. He was a member of the Eastview Baptist Church. Mr. Griggs’ hobbies included digging ginseng, deer hunting, and being out in nature in general.  Mr. Griggs left this world to receive his eternal reward on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Waynesboro Health and Rehab, making his stay in this life 88 years, 3 months, and 9 days.

   Those left behind to cherish his memory include his daughter, Deborah Ann Scoggin and husband John; his son, Timothy Charles Griggs and wife Marcie, both of Waynesboro, TN; seven grandchildren, Cami Bracewell, Carrie Hayes and husband Rocky, Justin Griggs and wife Haley, Heather Malugen and husband Dusty, Candace Shanes and husband Dustin, Brittany Littleton and husband Brandon, Tyler Butler and wife Miranda; nineteen great-grandchildren, Faith Hayes, Mary Fredericks, Caroline Bracewell, Roxie Bracewell, Cheyenne Malugen, Emory Malugen, Rhett Malugen, Titus Malugen, Josey Griggs, Savannah Griggs, Audrey Shanes, Beau Shanes, Brayden Littleton, Briley Littleton, Bennett Butler, Weston Butler, Sam Butler, Harper Butler, and Maylie Butler. Mr. Griggs is also survived by two great-great-grandchildren, Grayson Jefferson and Matthew Jefferson.

   In addition to his parents, Mr. Griggs is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mrs. Lula Marie Martin    Griggs, and two brothers, Horace Griggs and Wendell Griggs.

   Funeral services began at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Bates-Love Funeral and Cremation, with David Miller and Jerry Robbins officiating. Burial followed in the McGee Cemetery.
