Katherine Lucille (Toopie) Haggard Stooksberry was born December 2, 1931 to the late Robert Roy and Anna Lou Montague Haggard. She was also preceded in death by husband, Col. Sam Stooksberry, brother, Roy Haggard, Jr. and nephew, Robert (Bob) Haggard.
“Toopie” graduated from Ward-Belmont Preparatory School and Vanderbilt University where she was a founding member of Chi Omega Sorority. She was a member of the Waynesboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church. After teaching in the Waynesboro High School, she gave private piano lessons in her home.
She is survived by two sons, Ralph Montague Hughes, III and Roy Haggard Hughes (Jennifer) and grandson, Gavin Haggard Hughes and niece, Ann Bevis all of Waynesboro, TN as well as her life-long friend, Grace Henderson of Savannah, TN and daughter, Elizabeth Turney of Huntsville, AL, who have always been a part of her family.
Mrs. Stooksberry departed this life at her home on Friday, December 18, 2020 at the age of 89 years and 16 days. Graveside services were Sunday, December 20, 2020 at 2 pm at Greenwood Cemetery, Waynesboro, TN with Renee Martin officiating. Burial followed with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County assisting the family. Pallbearers were Jim Nunnaley, Rob Moore, Doug Sanders, David Hasting, Jim Turney, Micah Devore, Darrell Petty and Jim Beavers.
