Johnny F. Lay was born on May 9, 1944, in Waynesboro, TN, the son of the late John and Juanita Farris Lay. He was united in marriage to Diana Lee Lay on March 26, 2005. Johnny honorably served his country in the TN National Guard. He retired from Lucent Technologies, Inc. where he worked as an installer. Johnny’s hobbies included fishing and golfing. He was a member of the Wayne County Golf Association. Mr. Lay departed this life on August 1, 2023 at the age of 79 years, 2 months, and 23 days.
He is survived by his wife, Diana Lay of Collinwood, TN; a son, Jonathan Lay of Iron City, TN; a stepdaughter, Charity Godfrey (Shane) of Westchester, OH; a stepson, Ronnie McWilliams (Nicki) of Pulaski, TN; a brother, Billy Wade Lay (Connie) of Collinwood, TN; a sister-in-law, Linda Lay of Waynesboro, TN; three grandchildren, Tyler Godfrey, Josie Godfrey, and Wesley McWilliams.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Haddock and brother, Vernon Lay.
Services were held on August 5, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Shackelford Funeral Directors at Collinwood in Collinwood, Tennessee with Victor Lay officiating. Burial followed in the Memorial Gardens at Collinwood, TN with Shackelford Funeral Directors assisting the family.
Pallbearers were Travis Pigg, Wesley McWilliams, Tyler Godfrey, Shane Godfrey, Ralph Statom, Bronson Berry, Brent Lay, and James Haddock.
Honorary pallbearers were Jim Byrd and Johnny Ramirez.
