   John Staggs, a beloved member of the Waynesboro community, passed away on December 21st, 2023, at the age of 72. Born on March 26th, 1951, he was the son of Taylor Edna Staggs and Gladys Ray Sherills.

   John lived a fulfilling life that revolved around his passions and his loved ones. He dedicated over 20 years of his life to working on the Barge Line, showcasing his strong work ethic and commitment. When he wasn’t hard at work, John found solace in nature. Hunting and fishing were not merely hobbies for him; they were opportunities to embrace the beauty of the world around him.

   But John’s interests extended beyond the great outdoors. He loved exploring flea markets and auctions, always on the lookout for treasures to add to his collection. Wheeling and dealing was a thrill for him, an adventure that allowed him to connect with others. Perhaps what brought John the most joy in life was spending time with his beloved fur babies, Diamond and Sallie. Their unconditional love added warmth and companionship to his days, reminding him of the importance of love in our lives.

   John will be deeply missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for his family to hold close to their hearts.

   John is survived by his two sons, Johnny Staggs and Kristy, Jamie Staggs; his daughter, Penny Barkley and Kenny; three caring sisters, Shirley Morrow, Mary Jane Copeland, Faye Greer; as well as two adoring grandchildren, Dakota Barkley and Sullivan Staggs. 

   He was preceded in death by his wife, Dianne Lee Staggs; parents, Taylor Edna Staggs and Gladys Ray Sherills, brother, Samuel Taylor “Bodie” Staggs; his three sisters, Betty Garrett, Glenda Ponds, and Freddie Mae Gray.

   Visitation will be held at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Waynesboro on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, December 28th, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with the Funeral Service to follow at 1:00 p.m. with Brother Brant Sanders officiating.

   Interment will be at Riverside Methodist Church in Clifton, TN.
