It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Reverend James Frederick Staggs (Jim), beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Jim was born on January 23, 1943, in Hattiesburg, MS, to the late John O. Staggs and Loraine McLelland Staggs.
On December 4, 1962, James entered into a lifelong journey of love and partnership when he married his cherished wife, Shannon Cain Staggs. Together, they built a wonderful life filled with love, support, and unwavering commitment and service to Christ.
As a devoted member of Phillips Chapel, Waynesboro, TN the last few years of his life, Jim exemplified the values of faith and dedication, as he continued to serve the Lord in any way he was needed. He shared his deep wisdom and knowledge as a Sunday School teacher, preached when called upon, and helped in other small churches within his and Shannon’s rural community of southwest Tennessee. Before retiring from full-time pastoring, Jim led and served in many churches and ministries for 40 years throughout his career in service to God.
In his spare time, Jim enjoyed being outside, talking with friends on his HAM radio, watching college football, and spending time with his family.
Jim peacefully left this world on November 16, 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, and a life of service and dedication to Christ, whom he loved above all else.
He is survived by his precious wife of almost 61 years, Shannon C. Staggs of Waynesboro, TN; three daughters, Shannon Dixon (Bill) of Tallahassee, FL, Dayna Smith (Shawn) of Lebanon, TN, Rebekah May (Jonathan) of Columbia, MS; seven grandchildren, Malone Smith, Carson Crews, Cullen Smith, Libby Dixon, Claire Smith, Meredith Crews, John Henry Dixon; a great-grandchild, Rhayne Crews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, William F. Staggs.
Funeral services will be held at Okahola Baptist Church in Purvis, MS on Wednesday, November 22, at 11:30 AM.
