   Gregory Paul Long, born on December 8, 1957, was the beloved son of the late Willie Floyd Long and Mary Margaret Smothermon. On October 7, 1995, he entered into a lifelong partnership with his loving wife, Terri. After years of dedicated service to the Florence Police Department, he retired and began a new chapter in his life.

   On December 13, 2023, Mr. Long peacefully passed away in North Alabama at the age of 66 years and 5 days. His memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him.

   Greg found joy in various activities that brought him closer to nature and his passions. He loved spending his time hunting and fishing, engaging in lively conversations about guns with his friends, and enthusiastically cheering on his beloved Alabama Football team during their games. He was actively involved in community organizations including the Florences Jaycees and Bama Brigade where he held the esteemed position of Commander #C023. Additionally, Gregory was a devoted member of the Church of God where he found strength in his faith.

   He leaves behind a lifetime of memories carried by his beloved wife Terri Long. Greg also held a special place in his heart for Olivia, his loyal fur baby. His nieces April (Quentin) Clifton and Nola Dawn Wells were dear to him. He will be fondly remembered by his caring aunts Clara Haddock, Dot Brewer, Lois Weaver, Reba Holt, Carolyn Berry; devoted uncle Frank Long; as well as close friends Gary, Dan, Don, and Mike who provided unwavering support throughout his life.

   In addition to his immediate family members mentioned above, Greg was preceded in death by his cherished fur baby Speck, aunts Debbie Brewer and Evelyn Gossett, uncles Earl Long, James Long, Howard Haddock, as well as his in-laws Thomas Wells and Jean Wells.
