Gregory Bumphus was born February 23, 1959, in Hardin County, TN, the son of the late Claud D. and Pauline Francis Churchwell Bumphus. Mr. Bumphus worked construction for many years at Preston Carroll Contracting Company and then worked for eight years at McDonalds in Waynesboro, TN. He was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Clifton, TN. Mr. Bumphus departed this life on August 21, 2023, in Waynesboro, TN at the age of 64 years, 5 months, and 29 days.
He is survived by sisters, Victoria Bumphus Clemmons of Clifton, TN, and Bessie Weatherspoon of Clifton, TN; brothers, James Churchwell (Karen) of Sandusky, OH, Frank Churchwell of Sandusky, OH, Jessie Churchwell (Clara) of Augusta, GA, and Mike Churchwell of Augusta, GA; significant other of 14 years, Doris Patterson of Waynesboro, TN; aunts, Georgie Bailey of Terre Haute, IN, and Joe Clemons of Clifton, TN; nephews, James Churchwell, Jr. (Lisa Conner) of Clifton, TN and Clyde Churchwell of Murfreesboro, TN; and nieces, Jamie Clemmons of Clifton, TN, Renata Churchwell of Nashville, TN, Zakia Churchwell of Nashville, TN, and Brandy Churchwell of Nashville, TN.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bumphus was preceded in death by sisters, Nancy Churchwell of Clifton, TN, and Teresa Churchwell of Clifton, TN, and brothers, Steven Bumphus of Clifton, TN, and Kenneth Bumphus of Clifton, TN.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm service time at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Clifton, TN.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Clifton, TN, with Charles Linam officiating with scripture by Pastor William. The choir will perform a two-song selection. Shackelford Funeral Directors assisting the family.
