Billy Dee Cook was born on December 7, 1943, in Wayne County, TN, the beloved son of the late Lelon Odell Cook and Irene Symanthie Ussery Cook. On April 12, 1970, he joined his life with Cathey Elizabeth Stooksberry in marriage, creating a bond that would endure forever.

During the Vietnam era, Billy served his country with honor in the United States Navy as an electronic technician. He then dedicated himself to the craft of brick masonry for an impressive span of 40 years. Countless buildings bear his mark as a testament to his skill and hard work. For some time, Billy was self-employed, and later he contributed his talents to Haddock’s Masonry.

In those cherished moments when he wasn’t at work, Billy found solace in the great outdoors. Whether observing birds in their natural habitat or capturing images through the lens of his camera, he delighted in the beauty of nature surrounding him. Books were a constant companion as well; reading allowed Billy to explore new worlds and expand his knowledge. His faith was an integral part of his life, and he dedicated himself to studying the Bible and sharing its teachings by teaching Sunday school. Billy was also a member at Underwood Baptist Church in Florence, AL.

Billy and Cathey’s journey took them across different places: from Wayne County, TN to Cedar Park, TX before finally settling in Florence, AL. No matter where they went, Billy’s hands were skilled in building their homes with care and love.

Billy is survived by his wife, Cathey Elizabeth Stooksberry Cook of Florence, AL; daughters, Christy (Zeb) Henson of Florence, AL, Alice Cook of Florence, AL; brothers, Robert Cook of Iron City, TN, Richard Cook of Leoma, TN, Bob Cook of New Athens, IL; and sister, Brenda Sue Beeman of Sumner, TX; grandchildren, Caleb, Alex, Mia, and Garrett Henson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by brothers, Everett Cook and Gene Cook, and sisters, Ruby Nelson, Josie Frazier, Christine Lawson, Nadine Cook, Betty Cornelius, and Judy Owens.

Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at 3:00 pm at Underwood Baptist Church with Doug Farris and Trey Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery (private). Graveside Services will be held on December 27, 2023.

Pallbearers will be Zeb Henson, Caleb Henson, Alex Henson, Garrett Henson, Brad Cook, and Richard Cook.
