Betty Jean Hensley Smith was born September 5, 1931 in Collinwood, TN, the daughter of the late Clifford and Jimmie Brewer Hensley. She was united in marriage to Melvin “Pill” Smith on March 15, 1950 and he preceded her in death on February 1, 1996. Betty retired from Murray Ohio and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Collinwood, TN. In her spare time, Betty loved spending time working in her yard with her flowers. Betty departed this life on Monday, June 5, 2023 in Waynesboro, TN at the age of 91 years and 9 months.
She is survived by son, Rickey Smith (Rhonda) of Iron City, TN; daughter, Shelia Smith Gallaher of Collinwood, TN; sisters, Rachel Stricklin of Collinwood, TN and Shirley Kephart of Collinwood, TN; grandchildren, Melissa Martin (Bobby), Laura Jones (Tim), Jake Smith, and Natalie Gambrell (Dustin); great-grandchildren, Cole Martin, Rylan Martin, Chloe Warren, Ayden Jones, and Wyatt Gambrell.
In addition to her husband and parents, Betty is preceded in death by sisters, Martha Rich and Charlene Cummins.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 1:00pm at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Collinwood, TN with David Byrd officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Gardens in Collinwood, TN.
Pallbearers: Bobby Martin, Tim Jones, Steve Hinton, Shannon Hinton, Jake Smith, and Dustin Gambrell.
