WCHS Ladycats, Wildcats Win at Lewis County, Fall at Richland

The Wayne County High School Ladycats and Wildcats picked up wins at Lewis County on Tuesday but were not so lucky at Richland on Friday night. Both teams suffered losses at the hands of Richland. The Ladycats are now 7 – 2 on the year, while the Wildcats are 5 – 3. They play at Hardin County on Tuesday before a trip to the Smokey Mountain Classic in Gatlinburg this week. No games are scheduled for next week, but action will resume at Moore County on the 29th and 30th.

The Ladycats completely dominated the Lady Panthers of Lewis County on Tuesday, forcing 10 first quarter turnovers on their way to a 23 – 8 first quarter lead. They led 44 – 10 as Adaline Odle hit a last-second three to end the first half, and went on to take the win, 72 – 19. Kate Brison, Ava Ashley, and Presley Daniel led the Ladycats with 14, 13, and 12 points respectively. Brison was 4 for 4 from 3 and had 3 boards, a steal, and an assist. Ashley had 3 rebounds, a block, and 2 steals, and Daniel had 5 rebounds, a steal, and 2 assists. Adaline Odle hit for 9 points on 3 of 4 shooting from long range and had a rebound, 2 steals, and 2 assists. Lou Prater scored 7 points and had a rebound, 6 steals, and 5 assists. Kaybree Carroll had 5 points with a rebound, steal, and assist. Shylynn Smith and Kylei Thompson each had 3 points. Smith had 2 rebounds, a steal, and 4 assists, and Thompson had 3 rebounds. Emma Green, Mary Grace Littleton, and Kinsley Miller each scored 2 points. Green had a rebound, Littleton had 3, with 2 steals and an assist, and Miller had a rebound and an assist. Izzie Scaife had 3 rebounds, a steal, and an assist. Emerson Camfield had an assist. The Ladycats hit 10 long-range goals and forced 25 Lady Panther turnovers.

The Wildcats got off to a hot start at Lewis County, beginning the game on a 9 – 0 run, to lead 20 – 12 after the first quarter. They led by 10, 34 – 24, at the half, and upped the margin in the third to go up 61 – 37. The Panthers put together a run in the fourth, outscoring the 'Cats, 21 – 8. The 'Cats held on to win, 69 – 58.

Cayman Camfield and Case Butler led in scoring with 30 and 20 points respectively. Camfield had 4 boards, a block, 2 steals, and 3 assists and was 7 of 12 from 3. Butler had 14 boards, a block, a steal, and an assist. Logan Davis scored 8 points with 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 6 assists. Drew Baugus had 6 points with 3 rebounds and 5 assists. Kace Bryant had 3 points with 5 boards and 4 assists, and Nate Bevis had 2 points and 3 assists. Cayson Mosley had a rebound and an assist, and Warren Camfield had an assist. The 'Cats won the rebounding, 30 – 20.

The Ladycats matched points with the Lady Raiders of Richland in the opening quarter, tied at 14 all. They fell behind by 3 by the half, and the margin grew to 7 by the end of 3 quarters. The Ladycats fell, 51 – 41. Ava Ashley scored 19 points and had 5 boards and 5 blocks. Lou Prater scored 8 points and had 2 steals and 5 assists. Presley Daniel also had 8 points with 5 rebounds, a steal, and 4 assists. Kaybree Carroll had 2 points, and Mary Grace Littleton had 4 points with a rebound. The Ladycats lost the battle of the boards, 21 – 12 and had 15 turnovers.

The Wildcats fell behind early and never really recovered against the Richland Raiders Friday. They trailed by 8 at the half, 29 – 21, but the margin grew to 17 early in the third. Richland was exceptional at the foul line, hitting 21 of 22, and shot 67.9% from the field. The 'Cats narrowed the margin to 10, 54 – 44, with 3 minutes left, but fell by the final score of 66 – 48.

Cayman Camfield and Logan Davis led the scoring with 14 and 12 points respectively. Camfield had 5 rebounds, a steal, and an assist, while Davis had a rebound and an assist. Case Butler scored 8 points with 4 boards, and Kace Bryant had 6 points with 3 boards, a steal, and 3 assists. Nate Bevis had 4 points, a rebound, and an assist. Cayson Mosley had 4 points, a steal, and an assist. Drew Baugus had a rebound and an assist. The 'Cas only shot 32.5% from the field and were out-rebounded in the contest.
