Wayne County Teams Participate in World Series as Team Tennessee

Wayne County was well represented in the Diamond Youth Softball World Series last week, held in Tioga, Louisiana. Both the Wayne County 8U team and the 18U team played for our state as Team Tennessee.

Both tournaments began on Thursday, July 17. The 18U ladies handily defeated Team Louisiana on Thursday by a score of 9-2. On Friday, July 18, Team Tennessee fought hard but fell to Team Alabama by a score of 16-1. Team Tennessee 18U fell to the host team, Team Louisiana, when they played them again on Saturday, July 19. It was a close game, but the ladies from Tennessee fell by a score of 5-4, ending their great run this season.

The younger Wayne County ladies, Team Tennessee 8U, played two games on Friday, July 18. The first game saw the Tennessee girls capture a close one against Team Mississippi, winning by a score of 8-7. Later that day, Team Tennessee fought hard in the hot and humid Louisiana weather, but lost to Team Mississippi this time around by a score of 10-0. They wound up the series on Saturday, July 19, when they played Team Texas and were defeated by the close score of 7-6.

Congratulations to both teams on a great season, and let’s get ready to make another World Series appearance next year!
