On Tuesday, April 15th, the combined WCHS/CHS soccer team hosted the Culleoka Warriors in a district match at the Sportsplex. The first half was fairly balanced with both teams forcing the other’s goalie to make multiple saves. In the last minute of the half, a Culleoka striker put a hard shot into the back corner of the Wayne County goal to put Culleoka ahead 1-0 at half-time. The second half was less balanced, as the small team from Wayne County tired and Culleoka substituted. Near the mid-point of the second half, a Culleoka striker dribbled past several Wayne County defenders and looped a shot over Wayne County goalie Brandon Gray. Neither team scored after that, with Culleoka winning 2-0. Brandon ended up making 15 saves in the game.
On Friday, April 18th, the team hosted the Hardin County Tigers in a non-district match. Hardin County was a stronger team, including a German foreign exchange student. They scored three goals in the first 15 minutes and a 4th goal before halftime. The second half was similar, with Hardin County scoring four goals again. Final score was 8-0, Hardin County. Brandon made 10 saves.
The team traveled to Decatur Riverside on Monday for a non-district match, and play at Battle Creek High School (Spring Hill) tomorrow at 6:00 for their final district game. Their last regular season game will be next Tuesday, April 29th, when they host the Hickman County Bulldogs at the Sportsplex at 5:30 PM. They will play their first district tournament game Thursday, May 1st. Time, opponent, and location will be determined by the final district games this week.
