The CHS basketball teams opened district play Saturday night, January 10th, against Perry County, with the Trojanettes earning an impressive win while the boys’ team battled hard in a tough loss.
The CHS girls picked up a 55–44 victory, by a strong all-around performance and scoring. Ellie Blalock led the way with a standout night, finishing with 25 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Sophia Keeton recorded a dominant double-double, contributing 18 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block, while Emmy Reece added 11 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Additional contributions came from Abby Smith, who chipped in 1 point, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals, Sarah Creecy with 1 rebound, 1 assist, and 1 steal, and Brinn Crews, who added 1 assist and 1 rebound.
On the boys’ side, the Trojans fell 62–51 despite a strong effort. Brody Holt led the Trojans with 18 points and 4 rebounds, while Tate Linville followed with 12 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal. Stetson Holt added 9 points and 3 assists, and Cole Risner contributed 8 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals. Other contributors included Bennett Rich with 4 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal, Patch Craig with 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal, and Brandon Gray, who finished with 2 rebounds and 3 assists.
The CHS basketball teams had a busy week, competing in two regular-season games and one district matchup. The week began on Tuesday night with a road trip to Culleoka, followed by a home matchup against Cornersville on Thursday, and concluded with the teams opening their second district game at home on Friday night against Frank Hughes.
