WMS Wildcats Defeated by Richland Raiders

   The Waynesboro Middle School Wildcats traveled to face the Richland Raiders on Tuesday, September 1st, and came home with a loss on the books. The ‘Cats won the toss and elected to receive the ball for the opening kick. The offense was able to move the ball on the Raiders, but the opening drive resulted in a punt back to Richland. Richland started their drive on their own 26-yard line. They were able to move the ball down the field as the first quarter ended with a score of 0-0.

   The Raiders scored on a 29-yard pass play on the first play of the second quarter. The 2-point conversion was successful. Raiders led 8-0. On the ‘Cats’ second offensive possession, they were able to move the ball into Raider territory before fumbling and turning the ball back over to the Raiders on the 39-yard line. Richland took full advantage of the turnover and scored with a 61-yard touchdown run with 3:24 left before half-time. The 2-point conversion was good. The ‘Cats were unable to score before halftime, and the score was Richland 16-0.

   In the second half, the ‘Cats’ continued to struggle with turnovers and the defense did not have any answers to Richland’s running game. The final score was Richland 34, ‘Cats 0.

   The ‘Cats were not able to put any points on the board and only gained a total of 80 yards on 24 carries. Sayler Skelton had 40 yards with 6 carries. Drew Bevis had 26 yards on 6 carries.  Dane Bryant gained 2 yards with 4 carries. Cayson Castleman had a total of 4 yards on 3 carries.  Nate Bevis had 1 yard on 1 carry. Daylan Van Fleet had 8 yards on 2 carries. Brady Stooksberry and Dominic Donahue both were unable to gain any yards with a carry each. The ‘Cats’ passing game didn’t prove very successful either. Sayler Skelton was zero for 1 pass attempt, and Drew Bevis was zero for 2 pass attempts to include an intercepted pass.

   Defensively, the ‘Cats were led by Dominic Donahue with 4 solo tackles, 2 assists, and 1 tackle for loss. Sayler Skelton had 5 solos and 1 assist. Cayson Castleman had 1 solo, 1 assist, and 1 tackle for loss. Drew Bevis had 2 solo tackles and 3 assists. Baker Bryant had 3 solos.  Daniel Pike and Ty Carlton each had a solo and an assist. Brayden Littleton had 2 assists and a QB sack. Case Butler had 2 assists and 1 tackle for loss. Mason Moore had a solo tackle. Dylan Gobbell and Lakota Hooker each had 2 assists. Kolby Ray had an assist and a tackle for loss.  Cayman Camfield had a fumble recovery. Daylan Van Fleet, Hayden Horner, Rylan Durbin, and Knox Polk all had 1 assist.

   The Cats are scheduled to host the Summertown Eagles this Thursday. Kickoff is 6:30. Go ‘Cats!—-Submitted
