WCHS Wildcats to Open Football Season at Hickman County on Friday

   The 2021 Wayne County High School football season will begin Friday night, August 20, as the team travels to Hickman County. This year’s team will again be under the direction of Head Coach Cary Crews.  His assistant coaches this season will be John Blackwell, Lance Nutt, Derek Willis, Ryan Keaton, Jason McWilliams, Greg Morris, and William Mosley. Lucas Horton and Dylan Kimbrell will take care of the ‘Cats as their managers.

   The Wildcats will be led by eleven Seniors. Luke Sesler, Julian Birchett, Brock Brown, and Timmy Robbins will see action at running back and linebacker. Brian Austin Carlton, Dawson Willis, and Tyler Moser will work at wide receiver, with Carlton also playing linebacker on defense. Willis and Moser will see action at defensive back, too. Braxton Littleton, Jeremiah Robbins, Austin Gambrell, and Chance Kelley will anchor both the offensive and defensive lines. 

   The 2021 Junior class will include Austin Whitson at quarterback and defensive back. Hector Merino and Eli McClain will work at running back and linebacker, while Carl Britt and Jesse Dixon compete at wide receiver and defensive back. The junior linemen will include Colton Beason, Ethan Holt, Seth Kiddy, Nolan Moore, and Noah Maples.

   Thirteen Sophomores are on the roster. Ryder Butler will add to the depth at running back and defensive back. Carden Venable will work at quarterback and defensive back. Ty Cofer, Jared Dingus, Isaiah Gresham, Logan Brewer, David Grant Dixon, and Jacob Nienast will be available receivers and defensive backs, with Dixon and Nienast working at linebacker. Aaron Martin, Jaxon Pope, Issac Nienast, Talan Keeton, and Jaythen Staggs will work on both the offensive and defensives sides of the ball on the line.

   Seven Freshmen will join the Wildcat roster. Sayler Skelton will see action at defensive back and quarterback. Cayson Castleman and Drew Bevis will work at running back and linebacker. Baker Bryant, Brayden Littleton, Ben Thompson, and Rylan Durbin are serving on the line.

   Tara Hollis and Anna Beth Haggard remain as coaches of the WCHS cheerleaders. They are led by Seniors Alexandrea Hollis and Madison Gobbell. Ronnie Goldsby, also a Senior, will keep the crowd involved as “Wiley the Wildcat.” Other members of the cheerleading squad are: Olivia Gobbell, Carlie Staggs, Isabelle Davis, Karson Crews, Audrey Franks, Nevaeh Bayless, Reyna Prince, Gabbie Staggs, Lainey Bradley, and Emma Robertson.
