The Waynesboro Rotary Club recently made a donation in the amount of $2,222.70 to the City of Waynesboro Cops for Kids program. The program lost its main sponsor this year when Fred’s went out of business, as they were the main donors to the city’s Cops for Kids program. Beavers Tie and Lumber Company and The Roger Smith Agency also made generous donations to the program this year, and administrators of the program said that they are very grateful to all the donors who made it possible for the program to continue this year.

Faculty at Waynesboro Elementary School identify about 15 children each year that are experiencing circumstances which will make it unlikely that they will be able to receive Christmas gifts. They forward the list to City Hall staff, who administer the Cops for Kids program, and the donations they receive are used to purchase gifts for the children in need.

On Saturday, December 14th, 2019, the children and their families will meet the Cops for Kids crew at Dad’s Pizzeria. Dad’s will be providing a generous pizza lunch for the kids and their families. Santa Claus is set to make an appearance, and each child will be given a large gift such as a bicycle or new winter coat, along with other small toys that have been purchased for them.

The Cops for Kids program is a great project that allows 15 Waynesboro elementary and middle school aged children to experience the joy and wonder of Christmas that all kids look forward to each year.
