In an effort to move closer to normal school protocols and schedules, the Wayne County Board of Education has issued a new plan for students attending via the traditional learning option.

When school began last month, students were divided into three groups: Group A, Group B, and Group C. Each group has been attending class in person on a staggered schedule (every third day). As of Tuesday, September 8th, Group C students will be divided between Group A and Group B, creating only two groups instead of three.

Since the week of Labor Day is only a four-day school week, Group A will attend on Tuesday and Wednesday, and Group B will attend on Thursday and Friday. In the following weeks leading up to fall break, Group A will attend on Mondays and Tuesdays, Group B will attend on Thursdays and Fridays, and Wednesdays will be used for cleaning and disinfecting at all schools. Teachers will still be available on Wednesdays for distance learning and for students who need more enrichment.

Fall break is scheduled for the week of October 12th through October 16th. Director of Schools Marlon Davis stated that the situation will be re-assessed at that time, taking into consideration any governor’s orders or state mandates. The Board of Education will release an updated plan for the school schedule before students return from fall break.
