The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency invites Wayne County hunters to attend the “Wayne County Old School Check-In” from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Waynesboro City Park on Saturday, November 4, the opening day of muzzleloader season.

Hunters can join TWRA staff and community volunteers for a throwback event reminiscent of the check station days of old. Hunters who bring in a harvest will have their picture taken and posted on the photo board. Drinks and snacks will be available, and hunters are encouraged to congregate and see what fellow hunters harvest.

Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) sampling will be taking place from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. at this location. Hunters who allow a CWD sample to be taken of their deer will be entered in a drawing for a hunting rifle. The winner of the drawing will be contacted Nov. 11.

This is a free event open to everyone. Door prizes will be given out during the event and lunch will be provided at 11 a.m. Several local vendors will have booths for attendees to visit and pellet and archery shooting activities will be available. After lunch, there will be a live how-to demonstration on de-boning and prepping the harvest for the freezer or processor.

Hunters for the Hungry is participating in the event with a trailer to accept donations of field dressed deer. These donations will directly benefit the Wayne County community.
