Kimi Sue Kelley, Fitness Director at the Tennessee Fitness Spa, was recently a guest on the “Talk of the Town” television program on WSMV Channel 4 in Nashville. Kimi Sue spoke about the spa and all it has to offer.

The Tennessee Fitness Spa is located at Natural Bridge in Wayne County, the only known double-span natural bridge formation in the world. It is a purely natural formation that was created by a nearby freshwater spring. Many Native American tribes, including the Yuchi Indians from Mexico, the Choctaw, Chickasaw, Muskogean, and Creeks walked the trails around the Natural Bridge and used the site over several different periods of history.

Over two hundred years ago, the Natural Bridge was used as a hideout by Natchez Trace “Outlaws,” including “The Bloody Harpers” and the Mason and Murrell Gang. Davy Crockett also gave one of his first political speeches atop Pulpit Rock, overlooking the Natural Bridge.

Natural Bridge became a big attraction for Wayne County in the mid-20th century when it was a family-oriented “hangout” and gathering place. Many Wayne Countians today have great memories and stories of enjoying music, food, and fun at Natural Bridge in their younger days. The location remained open off and on in the 1970s and 80s, changing hands several times, but the natural beauty of the Natural Bridge itself just wasn’t enough of a draw to bring people in as they went to larger cities for entertainment.

The Tennessee Fitness Spa opened for business at Natural Bridge in 1991. People now travel from all over the world to spend a week, a month, or longer at the retreat. As Kimi Sue said, people come to get in better shape, to get a jump start towards a weight loss goal, relax by the pool, fish in the stream, detox, and gather with family and friends. According to the spa’s website, people mostly visit to shed weight, be it physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual.

Tennessee Fitness Spa offers a fully equipped gym, heated swimming pool, fitness classroom, cycling room, racquetball court, sauna, hot tub, sun deck, dining room, massage rooms, TV lounges, and accommodations for up to 50 guests. They offer a wide array of fitness activities, pet-free and pet-friendly housing options, life-changing educational workshops, healthy meal plans, and optional pampering services, such as massages and body scrubs.
