Last week, the Collinwood High School basketball teams delivered an exciting, action-packed week, hosting Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday, Dec. 9, and Adamsville on Friday, Dec. 12., showcasing dominant performances, hard-fought battles, and standout individual efforts. Players of the Week honors were awarded to Sophia Keeton and Ellie Blalock. Keeton achieved double-doubles in both games, while Blalock was the Trojanettes’ top scorer against Adamsville. Additionally, Cole Risner was recognized for both the Mt. Pleasant and Adamsville games, along with Patch Craig and Brody Holt for the Adamsville game.
The week opened emphatically for the Trojanettes with a commanding 74–35 win over Mt. Pleasant, highlighted by Keeton’s stat line of 32 points, 20 rebounds, two steals, and three blocks. Emmy Brown added 15 points and eight rebounds, Abby Smith contributed 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, and four steals, and Ellie Blalock filled the box score with six points, two rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Additional contributions came from Sarah Creecy with three points, seven rebounds, one assist, and one steal; Brinn Crews with two points, one rebound, three assists, and two steals; Brenleigh Hunt with two points and one rebound; Aubrey Todd with two points and six rebounds; Lydia Caperton with two points and one rebound; and Rachel Robinson with one rebound.
On the boys’ side, the Trojans followed with a thrilling overtime battle against Mt. Pleasant but narrowly fell 54–52, despite a standout performance from Cole Risner, who earned Player of the Game honors after leading the team with 20 points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Brody Holt scored 11 points with four rebounds; Tate Linville added 10 points, six assists, and one steal; Bennett Rich recorded seven points, five rebounds, three assists, and one steal; Patch Craig grabbed eight rebounds while adding two points, one assist, and two steals; Davin Brewer scored two points; and Brandon Gray contributed three rebounds and one steal.
Friday night brought another challenge as CHS faced Adamsville. The Trojanettes battled hard but came up short in a 49-68 loss, led by Ellie Blalock’s 20 points, along with two rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Sophia Keeton followed with 18 points, 12 rebounds, one assist, and two steals for her second double-double of the week, while Emmy Brown added 11 points, six rebounds, one assist, and two steals. Sarah Creecy pulled down seven rebounds with one assist, Brinn Crews contributed two rebounds and two steals, and Abby Smith added one assist and two steals.
The boys also fell to Adamsville by a score of 45–68, with Patch Craig, Brody Holt, and Cole Risner earning Players of the Game honors after leading a balanced scoring effort. Craig finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Holt also scored 10 points while pulling down 10 rebounds and adding 3 steals. Risner contributed 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Bennett Rich followed with 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist, while Brandon Gray added 6 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 steal. Tate Linville chipped in 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Davin Brewer recorded 1 rebound and 1 assist, and Stetson Holt collected 1 rebound.
CHS basketball now turns its focus to a busy stretch ahead, hosting Summertown on Monday, Dec. 15, Youth Basketball Night on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 5:00 p.m., and traveling to Giles County for back-to-back games on Friday, Dec. 19, and Saturday, Dec. 20, as both teams look to build momentum and continue their push through the season.---Submitted by Kala Abernathy
