“It is my pleasure to officially announce my intention to seek re-election to represent the 71st District — Hardin, Lewis, Wayne and a portion of Lawrence Counties — in the Tennessee House of Representatives.

“Over the past several months, I have been overwhelmed by the good wishes and requests of hundreds of constituents asking me to continue to serve them in the Tennessee House. Having prayed about this decision, Sherry and I are in agreement with them. With the Coronavirus Pandemic in full force, I have learned the importance of having an experienced legislator to answer the calls, texts, and emails of numerous concerned constituents.

“I learned firsthand six years ago how steep the learning curve is for a freshman Representative. You spend your entire first term learning the ins and outs and protocol of our legislative process at the state level. The most important thing you learn is who to contact whenever you need help for one of your constituents. For District 71 to have a freshman Representative during this crucial time could definitely result in our rural counties being overlooked in future key legislation that could help our constituents rebound from this devastating pandemic. I believe now, more than ever, that the experience and knowledge that I have gained will prove to be invaluable for the economic recovery of our District.

“Sherry and I are forever grateful for the tremendous outpouring of support, prayers, and encouragement this year and throughout my time serving in our General Assembly. We are humbled by the overwhelmingly positive comments and prayers sent our way and are honored to fight for you and serve as your voice in Nashville. Even though I have been a fierce advocate for education and conservative values throughout my time in the House, my ultimate goal is to ensure that each individual in District 71 has someone they can turn to in time of need.

“Tennessee is thriving under conservative leadership. In recent years, more than 420,000 net new private sector jobs have been created. Our state has experienced the lowest unemployment rates ever, and a job growth rate greater than 17 percent. Additionally, we have cut more than $845 million in taxes over the last nine years — including eliminating the professional privilege tax for 15 licensed professions. Tennessee also has the lowest debt per capita, lowest overall taxes, no transportation debt, and the lowest interest rate in recorded history. Just recently, U.S. News and World Report ranked Tennessee #1 in the nation for fiscal stability.

“Together, we have made remarkable strides advancing Tennessee’s conservative values. We have also created an environment that is attractive for businesses and for families. It has been an honor to serve you, and I ask for your prayers for God’s Wisdom as I serve in our State Legislature and seek Re-election in District 71.”
