Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your 5th District Wayne County Commissioner since 2018. I would also like to thank many friends and neighbors in my District for their input and suggestions, and for bringing their concerns to my attention. Working with my constituents, and with my fellow Commissioners, we have accomplished a great deal during my term.

An issue that has continued to be of concern is the safety of our children at school. From the beginning, I have been a strong supporter of having Resource Officers in our schools. This is an issue that is near and dear to me, and I will continue to back up the Sheriff’s Department and our School Superintendent to do whatever is necessary to keep our children safe.

As promised, during my campaign in the summer of 2018, soon after being elected, I launched the Wayne County Broadband Task Force. I am happy to report that we have successfully worked with numerous broadband providers to improve and expand broadband in Wayne County. There remains much more work and opportunities ahead and I am dedicated to accomplishing our goals. One of the most promising recent developments is our Broadband Task Force endorsement and support of the Tennessee Valley Electric Cooperative in a grant application with the state of Tennessee which would improve broadband countywide.

In addition to serving as your 5th District Commissioner I also proudly serve as: Secretary of the Wayne County Building Committee, Member of the County Budget Committee, and Chair of the Wayne County Capital Improvement Committee. I also serve on the Tennessee County Commissioners Association’s Membership and Governmental Affairs Committees.

I am also the Chairperson of the Downtown Collinwood Steering Committee. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the Downtown Collinwood project. Our goal is to increase the appeal of our community while keeping its unique character. We plan to attract customers, businesses, travelers, jobs, and resources while helping current business owners to be more successful.

I have a long to-do list remaining. With your vote and support, we will get it done during my next term. Just a few of the projects on my list include completion of the Wayne County Agriculture Center, improve broadband and cellular services, continue to work on the extension of Highway 641, completion of Collinwood Medical Clinic and ambulance services and other needed infrastructure countywide.

Finally, I would like to say that I firmly believe economic development is at the heart of our county. With that in mind, I work hand-in-hand with Rena Purdy, our Economic Development Director. In addition to a goal of developing retail and industrial businesses, we work together on programs that encourage entrepreneurship among our Wayne County youth.

I sincerely appreciate those who supported me in the past and I am asking for the future vote of everyone in the 5th District when you go to the polls in August.

Please vote for Sherrie Powers, County Commissioner, District 5. Thank you.

SHERRIE POWERS — COMMITTED TO WAYNE COUNTY– DEDICATED TO PROGRESS
