Wayne County Government is constructing Wayne County, Tennessee’s first Ag Center at the county’s existing Industrial Park that has been used for hay production for 30+ years. The Wayne County Agricultural Center (Ag Center) will support existing farmers and ag-based businesses and help develop the next generation of farmers. The facility will house the local UT Extension and Soil and Conservation offices, a 125-person training/meeting room, commercial kitchen, and a covered pavilion to provide outdoor classroom and event space. The grounds around this facility will be used for ag-related shows, demonstrations and eventually, community gardens.
Agriculture and Forestry are Wayne County’s leading economic drivers, and the county is home to over 650 farms covering more than 130,000 acres of farmland. This project will allow expansion of existing ag-related programming, encourage more entrepreneur farmers, and provide training to increase farm production levels, thus increasing the number of jobs in the agriculture industry.
Kubota’s Hometown Proud Grant Program put out a call for entries for a $100,000 grant in April 2021. The Wayne County Ag Center project was identified as one of the five finalists for the grant! The grant funding, if awarded, will be added to the project investments needed to complete the Ag Center.
It’s now up to us to reach the most votes among the five finalists in order to receive the grant for the Ag Center. Voters can vote once per day, every day, until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, June 25th.
