Information on a perpetrator who escaped from Hollis Academy on June 16, 2022 came to light when he received an additional charge of vandalism at the Wayne County Jail where he is currently incarcerated.

Adarion Kevhonte Bonds, age 18, was booked into the Wayne County Jail on September 8, 2023, which was his 18th birthday. According to Lt. Jeremy Staggs of the Waynesboro Police Department, information on the crimes Bonds allegedly committed, along with his grand jury indictments, were not released prior to Bonds’ 18th birthday because he was a juvenile.

Lt. Staggs confirmed that Bonds was housed at Hollis Academy at the time of his alleged crimes. On June 16, 2022, at approximately 1:15 a.m., Bonds allegedly escaped from Hollis Academy by climbing a fence that surrounds the facility. He first allegedly broke into a vehicle parked at the E-911 Emergency building across the street from Hollis Academy and stole a Glock 43 .9mm pistol. Bonds then allegedly fled through the woods until he reached a residence on Clifton Turnpike. At approximately 4:00 a.m., he proceeded to break into the home, and the 72-year-old female resident was awoken to Bonds standing over her and pointing the gun at her that he had just stolen.

The report stated that Bonds spent approximately an hour and a half inside the home with the resident, but she was not assaulted. He allegedly stole her cell phone and vehicle, a 2017 Mini Cooper, and fled in an easterly direction.

While the Waynesboro City Police handled the tracking of Bonds while he was still within city limits, the pursuit and investigation were turned over to the Tennessee Highway Patrol when Bonds left the jurisdiction. Wayne County E-911 was able to ping the victim’s phone that was stolen by Bonds, and he was tracked and then spotted in Winchester, TN. THP deployed spike strips to stop the vehicle, and Bonds was apprehended at approximately 10:00 a.m. the same day as the escape.

When Bonds was apprehended, he was initially sent to a juvenile detention facility in either Maury or Davidson County. After being held at that facility for a short period of time, he was sent to another residential halfway house in an undisclosed location, where he escaped again and was able to elude capture for a few months. Bonds was eventually apprehended once again, and was booked into the Wayne County Jail on his 18th birthday.

Bonds was indicted by the Wayne County Grand Jury on charges of escape, theft, vandalism, aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, burglary-auto, burglary other than a habitation, aggravated robbery, and especially aggravated kidnapping. On December 11, 2023, Bonds received an additional charge of vandalism after allegedly breaking a window in his pod at the Wayne County Jail. He is being held with no bond as a felony pretrial detainee.
