Flag Day is on Wednesday, June 14th, 2023, and American Legion Post 254 of Collinwood will be holding a ceremony to properly dispose of all worn, tattered, or unserviceable flags. The ceremony will be at Veterans Park, located on Broadway Street in Collinwood, at 6:00 p.m.

The U.S. Flag code states, “the flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.” Thus, when a flag is torn and tattered beyond repair, it’s time for it to be retired.

Wind has a tendency to wreak havoc on American flags that are on display at homes and businesses, and many people just don’t know the proper way to dispose of them when they become ragged and worn. The Collinwood American Legion Post 254 Honor Guard says that they are happy to properly dispose of the worn flags for you.

The Flag Day ceremony will be held rain or shine, hot or cold. Bring your lawn chairs, and come participate in this day that honors our American Flag.
