A young Collinwood man was transported by helicopter for treatment of potentially serious injuries on Thursday morning following a motor vehicle accident on Highway 13 South.

The report filed by the Collinwood Police Department stated that Wyatt Shelton, age 20, of Collinwood, was traveling southbound on Highway 13 South at approximately 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 19th when his 2012 Nissan Altima left the roadway and struck a tree. Officers stated that upon their arrival at the scene just inside the Collinwood city limits, Shelton was lying unconscious on the ground outside the vehicle. Their preliminary investigation concluded that Shelton was not ejected from the vehicle, but had climbed out of the vehicle before losing consciousness. He was transported by helicopter to a trauma facility for treatment of suspected internal injuries.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to have been involved in the accident, and officers said that Shelton was wearing his seatbelt. His condition was unknown as of press time.
