CHS Trojans & Trojanettes Give Up Two, Go On to Defeat Waterloo

   The Collinwood High School Trojans and Trojanettes had a big week last week, playing Summertown at home on Tuesday, at Loretto on Friday, and Waterloo at home on Saturday. Both teams suffered losses on Tuesday and Friday against district leaders Loretto and Summertown. Both the Trojans and Trojanettes had great wins against Waterloo on Saturday. 

   On Tuesday, January 21st, the Trojanettes failed in the first half to capitalize on free throws, thus allowing Summertown to build a lead. In the second half, the girls were unable to gain any momentum, and were defeated by a final score of 68-38. Leading the Trojanettes in scoring were AC Whitehead and Emily Kautsky with 9 points each. Kautsky had 6 rebounds and Whitehead had 2 rebounds. Following Kautsky and Whitehead was Kristen Retherford with 7 points and 1 rebound. Also scoring for the Trojanettes were Harlee Haddock with 6 points, Sophie Gobbell with 4 points and 6 rebounds, Rhianna McWilliams with 2 points and 1 rebound, and Hayley Siems with 1 point and 1 rebound. Asia Kelly had 4 rebounds, Alyssa Gray 2 rebounds, Addie Quillen 1 rebound, and Kaycee Luker 1 rebound. 

   The Trojans also fell to Summertown, defeated by a final score of 52-83. Leading the boys in scoring was Joe Thompson with 13 points. Following Thompson were Dayton Scott and Noah Hollis, each having 11 points. Also scoring for the Trojans were Cort Robertson with 5 points, Dalton Chastain and Tucker Thompson with 4 points each, and Peyton Ward and Aidan Baskins with 2 points each.

   The Trojanettes traveled to Loretto on Friday, January 24th and suffered a loss. The final score was 38-72. Leading the Trojanettes in scoring was Kristen Retherford with 15 points and 2 rebounds. Following Retherford were AC Whitehead and Emily Kautsky, both having 10 points and 5 rebounds. Sophie Gobbell also scored 3 points and had 4 rebounds. Asia Kelly had 4 rebounds, Harlee Haddock had 3 rebounds, and Rhianna McWilliams, Brylee Harris, Hayley Siems, and Kaycee Luker each had 1 rebound. 

   The Trojans were defeated by the Loretto Mustangs on Friday with a final score of 36-73. Leading the boys in scoring was Peyton Ward with 10 points. Closely following Ward was Dayton Scott with 9 points. Also scoring for the Trojans were Joe Thompson with 4 points, Dalton Chastain, Noah Hollis, Tucker Thompson, and Cort Robertson, each scoring 3 points, and Aidan Baskins with 1 point.

   On Saturday, January 25th, the Trojanettes and Trojans played at home game against Waterloo. The girls held Waterloo to 8 points in the first half, with the score being 42-8. #3 Kristen Retherford scored her 1000th point with a last second shot before halftime. The Trojanettes soundly defeated Waterloo by a final score of 68-18. Leading the Trojanettes in scoring was Kristen Retherford with 16 points. Following Retherford was AC Whitehead with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Also scoring for the Trojanettes were Emily Kautsky with 11 points and 3 rebounds, Sophie Gobbell with 7 points and 4 rebounds, Alyssa Gray with 5 points and 4 rebounds, Katie Robertson with 4 points and 1 rebound, Asia Kelly with 4 points and 1 rebound, Rhianna McWilliams with 3 points and 4 rebounds, Brylee Harris with 2 points and 4 rebounds, and Harlee Haddock with 2 points and 2 rebounds.

   The Trojans also pulled off a win against Waterloo. At the half, the Trojans were behind 4 points with the score being 23-27. During the 3rd quarter, the Trojans were able to gain momentum and ultimately win the game with a final score of 57-49. Peyton Ward led the Trojans in scoring with 13 points. Following Ward were Noah Hollis and Dalton Chastain with 10 points each. Also scoring for the Trojans were Dayton Scott with 8 points, Joe Thompson with 7 points, Tucker Thompson with 6 points, and Aidan Baskins with 3 points. 

   The Trojans’ record is now 5-11, and the Trojanettes stand at 12-4. This week, the Trojans and Trojanettes have two games on their home court. They played Perry County on Tuesday and will play county rival Waynesboro on Friday. Come out and support the Trojans and Trojanettes!—Submitted
