CHS Trojans Defeat District Rival WCHS Wildcats

   The CHS Trojans and Trojanettes had two district games at home last week. The girls had a great win against Perry County, but suffered a tough loss against Waynesboro. The boys lost against Perry County, but then took an awesome win against our county rivals, Waynesboro. 

   On Tuesday, the Trojanettes faced the Lady Vikings of Perry County. In the first half, the girls were up 23 points with a score of 40-17. After halftime, the girls still fought hard and ended up winning by 36 points. The final score was 60-36. Leading in scoring was Kristen Retherford with 19 points and 3 rebounds. Following Retherford was AC Whitehead with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Also scoring for the Trojanettes were Sophie Gobbell with 9 points and 7 rebounds, Emily Kautsky with 9 points and 4 rebounds, Asia Kelly with 7 points and 11 rebounds, Brylee Harris with 3 points, Hayley Siems with 3 points and 3 rebounds, Harlee Haddock with 2 points, and Rhianna McWilliams with 1 point and 4 rebounds. Alyssa Gray and Katie Robertson had 1 rebound each, and Addie Quillen had 2 rebounds. 

   The Trojans then faced the Perry County Vikings. At halftime the Trojans were down 5 points with a score of 29-34. During the second half, the Trojans were unable to recover and ended with a loss. The final score was 63-76. Leading the Trojans in scoring was Peyton Ward with 18 points. Following Ward was Joe Thompson with 14 points. Also scoring were Dalton Chastain with 7 points, Noah Hollis with 6 points, Tucker Thompson and Bryan Rozinski with 5 points each, and Joe Hensley, Dayton Scott, Aidan Baskins and Blair Holt with 2 points each. 

   On Friday, January 31st, the Trojanettes faced the Lady Cats on the CHS home court. The Trojanettes kept the lead in the first quarter and then were down 1 point at the half with a score of 26-27. During the 3rd quarter the girls were unable to recover. The Trojanettes were able to gain momentum in the 4th quarter, but ultimately fell short and were defeated by a final score of 50-58. Emily Kautsky led the Trojanettes in scoring with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Following Kautsky was AC Whitehead with 10 points and 4 rebounds. Also scoring for the Trojanettes were Asia Kelly with 9 points and 8 rebounds, Kristen Retherford with 8 points and 1 rebound, Sophie Gobbell with 6 points and 8 rebounds, Alyssa Gray with 2 points and 1 rebound, and Hayley Siems with 1 point and 2 rebounds. Brylee Harris had 1 rebound.

   The Trojans then faced the Wildcats, pulling out a win. The Trojans were able to obtain a 15 point lead in the first half with a score of 41-26. After halftime the boys came back with the same energy, defeating the Wayne County Wildcats by a final score of 60-53. Leading the Trojans in scoring was Tucker Thompson with 17 points. Following Thompson was Peyton Ward with 13 points. Also scoring for the Trojans were Joe Thompson with 8 points, Noah Hollis with 7 points, Blair Holt with 5 points, Dalton Chastain and Bryan Rozinski with 3 points each, and Dayton Scott and Aidan Baskins with 2 points each.

   The Trojanettes’ record is now 13-5, and the Trojans’ record is now 6-12. The teams play their last two district games this week. The Trojans and Trojanettes played against Clifton on Tuesday, and on Friday they will play at Summertown. Make the trip to support our guys and girls this week!—Submitted
