CHS Trojans and Trojanettes Headed to Region Tournament

   The Collinwood High School Trojans and Trojanettes each had three games last week in district tournament play. On Tuesday, both teams played at home against Clifton and finished with great wins. Friday, the Trojans faced Loretto and the Trojanettes faced Clifton. Both teams suffered losses, which resulted in them playing in consolation games on Saturday. The Trojanettes started off the games on Saturday by playing Waynesboro, and suffered a heartbreaking loss. Following the Trojanettes, the Trojans played and suffered a loss against Perry County.

   On Tuesday, February 18th, the Trojanettes played the Lady Lions of Clifton in the first round of district tourney action. The Trojanettes managed to hold the Lady Lions to only 6 points in the first half with a score of 33-6. The girls came back from halftime with the same momentum and finished the game with a great win of 71-16. Leading the Trojanettes in scoring was AC Whitehead with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Following Whitehead was Asia Kelly with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Also scoring for the Trojanettes were Kristen Retherford with 10 points and 1 rebound, Emily Kautsky with 10 points and 6 rebounds, Brylee Harris with 6 points and 2 rebounds, Alyssa Gray with 6 points and 1 rebound, Sophie Gobbell with 5 points and 4 rebounds, Katie Robertson with 3 points and 1 rebound, Addie Quillen with 2 points and 1 rebound, and Hayley Siems with 1 point and 3 rebounds. Rhianna McWilliams had 3 rebounds. 

   The Trojans played Clifton on Tuesday night as well. At the end of the first half, the Trojans were down 3 points with a score of 30-33. After halftime, the boys came back and gained the lead which resulted in a win. The final score for the game was 63-55. Leading the Trojans in scoring was Noah Hollis with 24 points. Also scoring for the Trojans were Dalton Chastain with 11 points, Dayton Scott with 9 points, Joe Thompson with 7 points, Peyton Ward and Blair Holt with 5 points each, and Tucker Thompson with 2 points. 

   On Friday night, the girls faced the Lady Eagles of Summertown. At halftime, the Trojanettes were down 14 points with a score of 15-29. The girls were unable to recover and lost to the Lady Eagles by a score of 32-57. Leading the Trojanettes in scoring was Asia Kelly with 9 points and 7 rebounds. Also scoring for the Trojanettes were Kristen Retherford with 5 points, AC Whitehead with 5 points and 2 rebounds, Emily Kautsky with 5 points and 1 rebound, Hayley Siems with 4 points and 4 rebounds, Sophie Gobbell with 2 points and 2 rebounds, and Katie Robertson with 2 points. Brylee Harris had 2 rebounds and Rhianna McWilliams had 1 rebound. 

   The Trojans faced the Loretto Mustangs on Friday. The Trojans were down at the half by a score of 8-38. The game ended with Loretto on top, winning by a score of 14-64. Peyton Ward led the Trojans in scoring with 8 points. Also scoring for the Trojans were Joe Thompson and Blair Holt with 2 points each and Joe Hensley and Dayton Scott with 1 point each. 

   On Saturday, the Trojanettes played against the Wayne County Lady Cats. The Trojanettes kept the lead throughout the first quarter, but the Lady Cats gained the lead with a last second shot. Too many turnovers for the Trojanettes allowed the Lady Cats to have a 9 point lead at the half with a score of 21-30. The Trojanettes were able to make it a 2 point game at the end of the third quarter with a score of 34-36. During the fourth quarter the Trojanettes and Lady Cats went back and forth tying the game and then gaining the lead back again. Ultimately, the Trojanettes suffered a heartbreaking loss with a final score of 42-47. Asia Kelly led the Trojanettes in scoring with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Following Kelly was Kristen Retherford with 10 points and 3 rebounds. Also scoring for the Trojanettes were Emily Kautsky with 6 points and 7 rebounds, Alyssa Gray with 5 points, AC Whitehead with 5 points and 3 rebounds, and Sophie Gobbell with 3 points and 3 rebounds. 

   The Trojans faced the Perry County Vikings on Saturday. The Trojans were up 8 points at the end of the first quarter with a score of 18-10. At the half, the Trojans still had the lead with a score of 30-25. After halftime, the Trojans lost some momentum and allowed the Vikings to gain the lead. The score at the end of the third quarter was 44-47. After that, the Trojans were unable to recover and ended up losing the game with the final score being 67-76. Leading the Trojans in scoring was Noah Hollis with 15 points. Dalton Chastain and Peyton Ward followed Hollis, each having 13 points. Also scoring for the Trojans were Joe Thompson with 10 points, Aidan Baskins with 7 points, Blair Holt with 6 points, and Carter Smith with 1 point. 

   The Trojans and Trojanettes will play in regions this week. The Trojanettes will play Friday at Huntingdon at 7:00 pm and the boys will play at McKenzie on Saturday at 7:00 pm. Make the trip to support our Trojans and Trojanettes!!—Submitted
