Coronavirus has disrupted many planned events this year, and the Butterfly Foundation’s 5K Run/Walk is no exception. The Run this year will be a virtual run.

Everyone who wants to run or walk and be eligible for an award will need to do a few things. If you haven’t turned in your registration form or registered online, do it soon. Every runner must be registered PRIOR TO August 22. To register online, go to butterfly5k.itsyourrace.com. You may also register by mailing the registration form and fee to the address on the form.

A distance of 5K equals to 3.1 miles, so measure it off and record your time. You may download an app to your smartphone which will record the time for you. The name of the app is IYR Virtual. Once you have completed your run or walk, go to the butterfly5k.itsyourrace.com website and record your time. You may also run or walk the distance on a treadmill. More instructions on how to do a virtual race may be found on the website.

Participants in the Run will receive a t-shirt with the 2020 Virtual logo. The shirt will be fluorescent orange this year. Participants will also receive a participation medal. First, second, and third place awards will also be given.

Those who do not want to participate in the Run but who are registered will receive a t-shirt.  There will be no extra shirts ordered this year for later sale, so if you want a shirt, when you register, mark “I am sleeping in” on the form. This will guarantee you a shirt. Everyone who registers will get a t-shirt. The shirts will be ready approximately two weeks after the Run. Local shirts and medals will be delivered by the Foundation, and out-of-town shirts will be mailed along with the medals earned.

If you have any questions concerning the Run, contact Jim Beavers, Race Master, at 931-722-3658 or email him at [email protected].
