Do you have youth who are interested in 4-H Livestock Judging? We will have a hands-on “camp” for 4th – 11th graders to learn about Livestock Judging on July 21st from 9am – 1:30pm at the Rowlett Farm (address will be provided to registered participants). Julie Giles, director of Farm Animal Care Coalition of Tennessee (FACCT), will be our guest presenter. She participated in Livestock Judging as a youth in 4 H and went on to compete at the collegiate level. Before assuming her role as Director of FACCT, Julie had the privilege to be a 4-H Agent in her county.
For this session, we will focus on beef cattle, but the principles learned will apply to all classes of livestock youth will learn to judge. Topics that will be covered include: Live Judging Demo, Parts of an Animal, Why Judging is Important, and Hands-On Judging training of cattle classes.
At 1pm, youth will get a chance to practice their skills and judge a heifer class for a prize. Parents are invited to attend the competition, which will begin at 1pm!
Livestock Judging with 4-H is such a fun event for youth. It teaches so much beyond animal evaluation and opens up opportunities to connect with youth in our region and across the state. Unlike exhibiting livestock at shows and fairs, youth do not need to own livestock to participate in Livestock Judging.
There is a small fee to attend. Lunch will be provided. Space is limited. Payment and registration forms are due at our office by end of day July 19th, 2021.
