Tragedy was averted on Saturday when a vehicle crashed through the fence and came to a rest at the former Lincoln Brass building in Waynesboro. The driver reportedly only suffered minor injuries, while the vehicle, fence, and building suffered significant damage.

According to the report filed by the Waynesboro Police Department, Rebecca Ann Ford-Bond, age 41, of Hohenwald was traveling on the Highway 64 Bypass and was approaching the red light at the intersection of the Bypass and Dexter Woods Memorial Boulevard. As Ford-Bond approached the intersection, she lost control of her Dodge Nitro and initially ran under the fence that surrounds the former Lincoln Brass building. Ford-Bond then ran back through the fence, traveled partially up the grassy bank next to the roadway, and then crashed into the fence for a third time. The vehicle finally came to a rest at the corner of the building, causing minor damage to the building and narrowly missing a large tree stump.

Ford-Bond was transported by ambulance to Wayne Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries. She reportedly told officers that she had a seizure which caused the wreck, and did not remember anything for one hour prior to the incident.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to have been a factor in the wreck. Officers do believe that speed was a factor.
