The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and The Salvation Army have announced a joint initiative to collect fan donations for local households in need as temperatures rise ahead of the summer months.
Sheriff Shane Fisher and Salvation Army Major N.J. Pope report that many homes in Wayne County either lack air conditioning or cannot afford to operate it during periods of extreme heat. Each summer, heat indexes in the region frequently exceed 100 degrees, significantly increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
“This is a real safety issue for many families in our community,” said Major Pope. “Fans can make a meaningful difference for residents who have limited options for cooling their homes.”
Sheriff Fisher emphasized the importance of acting before the most dangerous heat arrives. “We want to make sure these fans are in homes before the summer heat hits full force,” he said. “A simple donation can help protect someone’s health.”
A distribution date for the donated fans will be announced in a future article.
Community members wishing to contribute are encouraged to donate new fans at either of the following drop-off locations:
• Wayne County Sheriff’s Office
• Waynesboro First Fellowship Church
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and The Salvation Army express their sincere appreciation for the continued generosity and support of the community as they work together to protect vulnerable residents during the summer months.
