Regular Season Ends, It's Tournament Time for WCHS

The WCHS Wildcats and Ladycats ended their regular season with wins over Collinwood Friday night. On Monday, they both won as they hosted Frank Hughes, then traveled to Giles County on Tuesday to add two more. The Ladycats won the District 11A regular season with the win over the Trojanettes and are now 23 – 5. The 'Cats finished second in the district regular season to Perry County and stand at 18 – 9, going into tourney play Friday and Saturday. District action will be at Perry County. Brackets are incomplete at press time. Games begin at 4:00 Friday.

Monday night against the Lady Lions of Frank Hughes, the Ladycats got off to a good start, leading 23 – 8 at the end of the first quarter, forcing 11 turnovers. They upped the margin to 42 – 19 by halftime and went on to take the win 65 – 31. Ava Ashley led the Ladycats with 28 points. She had 3 boards, a steal, and a block. Presley Daniel scored 16 points and had 4 rebounds, a block, 7 steals, and 4 assists. Shylynn Smith scored 5 points with a rebound, 3 steals, and an assist, while Mary-Grace Littleton added 4 points, 2 boards, 4 steals, and 2 assists. Kate Brison, Kaybree Carroll, Emma Green, Carleigh Labombard, Adaline Odle, and Izzie Scaife each had 2 points. Brison had 3 rebounds and 2 assists, while Carroll had 3 boards, a steal, and 2 assists. Green and Labombard each had a rebound. Odle had 3 boards, a steal, and an assist. Kylei Thompson had a rebound and 2 steals. The Ladycats forced 27 turnovers, resulting in points off turnovers.

The Wildcats controlled the game against Frank Hughes from the start, jumping out to a 23 -9 first quarter lead. The margin was 20 at the half, and the 'Cats went on to take the 78 -34 win. Cayman Camfield led the way with 26 points, including going 6 of 10 from long range. He had 4 boards, a block, a steal, and an assist. Kace Bryant had 13, with 3 three pointers, and had a rebound, a steal, and an assist. Drew Baugus scored 8 points with 3 boards and an assist. Logan Davis and Caysen Mosley each had 7 points. Davis had 2 rebounds and 8 assists, while Mosley added 3 rebounds, a block, and a steal. Case Butler scored 5 points with 4 boards, a block, a steal, and an assist. Kyler Self had 4 points with 2 rebounds. Nate Bevis scored 3 points and had a rebound and 2 assists. Hunter Skelton also scored 3 points. Barrett Gallian had 2 points and 5 rebounds. Hudson Floyd had a rebound. The Cats shot 55.6% from three and 58.3% from the field and won the rebounding 30 -20.

The Ladycats jumped out to a 17 – 7 lead on the Giles County Lady Bobcats at the end of the first and led 25 – 17 at the half. In the third, the Ladycats managed only 5 points and found the game tied at 30 at the end of the third. Giles County went up 34 - 33 with 5:28 left on a steal and basket. Ava Ashley made two baskets to put the Ladycats up 37 – 34 with 3:48 left, but a blocked shot and 2 free throws on the other end made it 38 – 37. With 1:39 left, Ashley grabbed an offensive rebound and got the basket to put them back up 39 – 38. Giles County answered, going up by 1, 40 – 39. The Lady Bobcats turned the ball over with 39.6 seconds left. They fouled Ava Ashley, and she went to the line to make it 41 – 40. Ashley got a steal and went to the line and made 1 of 2, making it a two-point margin. Giles went to the line with 3.6 on an offensive rebound and hit 1 of 2, but the Ladycats gave up another offensive board. Giles couldn't make the shot, so Wayne County came away with the 42 – 41 win. Ashley finished with 21 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2 steals. Presley Daniel had a big double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. She had a block, a steal, and 4 assists. Mary-Grace Littleton had 4 points with 3 rebounds, a steal, and 4 assists, while Kaybree Carroll had 3 points and 2 boards. Kate Brison had a steal and rebound, and Adaline Odle had a rebound, a steal, and an assist. Kylei Thompson had a steal.

The Wildcats took a 15 – 10 lead in the first against Giles County on a three-point buzzer-beater by Kace Bryant. They turned up the defensive pressure in the second, allowing only 2 points in the period to go up 30 – 12 at the half. The 'Cats came out on top by a twenty point margin, 63 – 43.

Cayman Camfield hit for 20 points with Kace Bryant finishing with 14 and Logan Davis scoring 10. Camfield had 2 rebounds, a steal, and 2 assists. Byant had 6 rebounds, a steal, and 3 assists with 4 three-pointers, and Davis had 6 boards, a steal, and 6 assists. Caysen Mosley added 9 points with 3 rebounds, and Case Butler had 6 points with 7 boards. Kyler Self scored 4 points and had a rebound and a steal. Nate Bevs had a rebound, a steal, and an assist. Drew Baugus had a rebound and a steal. The 'Cats went 46% from the field and 43.8% from three.

The Ladycats got off to a slow start offensively against the Trojanettes of Collinwood, managing only 5 points in the quarter, as Kylei Thompson hit a big three and the Ladycats forced a Collinwood turnover to end the quarter. They scored 8 in the second, holding the Trojanettes to 5, to take a 13 – 10 lead at halftime. The Ladycats managed to maintain the lead to come away with the 37- 29 win. Presley Daniel led the way with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks, 4 steals, and an assist. Ava Ashley and Adaline Odle each scored 8 points. Ashley had 2 boards, a steal, and 2 assists, while Odle had a rebound, a block, a steal, and an assist. Kylei Thompson hit the big 3 and had a rebound. Mary-Grace Littleton had a rebound, a steal, and an assist. Kate Brison had 2 boards, a steal, and an assist. The Ladycats managed only 32.4% from the field but were 11 of 14 from the line for 78.6%. Collinwood was 10 of 14 from the line but had 12 turnovers.

The Wildcats got off to an 11 – 3 start against the Trojans in the first 4 minutes of action and never looked back as they won 75 – 38. Logan Davis tallied a big game with 21 points, a rebound, 2 steals, and 2 assists. Drew Baugus hit for double figures with 10 points and had 4 boards and an assist. Nate Bevis scored 9 points and had 6 rebounds and an assist, and Kace Bryant and Caysen Mosley each scored 7. Bryant had 2 rebounds, a steal, and 2 assists, while Mosley had 5 boards, a steal, and an assist. Barrett Gallian had 5 points, and Cayman Camfield scored 4 points with 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and 5 assists. Case Butler, Warren Camfield, and Kyler Self each scored 3 points. Butler had 6 boards, Camfield had a rebound, a steal, and an assist, and Self had a steal and an assist. Lawson Stegall had 2 points and a rebound, and Casey Franks had 1 point with 2 assists.
