At Waynesboro’s annual Independence Day Celebration, it seems the crowd grows every year. Well, this year topped them all! The Celebration, held on Thursday, July 3rd, drew over 4,000 visitors to Waynesboro City Park.
Forty-seven different vendors were set up at the park to offer all kinds of food, crafts, and most any other wares you can think of. All the vendors seemed to be very happy with the crowd turnout and participation.
The music this year was epic, with American Idol winner Chayce Beckham first taking the stage. Chayce performed his most recent hits, some of which America heard while he was competing on the television show American Idol. Chayce was a truly unique Idol competitor in that he wrote all his own songs that he performed onstage for the audience and judges. Chayce is indeed a talented singer and songwriter, and the park crowd certainly appreciated his talented performance.
Drake White took the stage next, keeping the audience engaged with his great performance. Drake truly has a story to tell - in August 2019, he collapsed onstage while performing due to a hemorrhagic stroke. Doctors told him he might never perform again, but he has since proven them wrong. After undergoing a series of surgeries to repair his Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) and going through months of physiotherapy, Drake has overcome his obstacles and is once again entertaining crowds with his music.
After the sun went down and the temperature became more bearable, the annual “Fireworks Extravaganza” lit up the night skies with a display that most agree was better than ever. People gathered at vantage points all around the city to watch the breathtaking display.
This year’s event, co-sponsored by the City of Waynesboro and Wayne Halfway House, was truly a better-than-ever event for everyone who participated. Plans are already underway for next year’s Independence Day Celebration!
