Deborah Woods Mitchell

Deborah was raised in Wayne County on Eagle Creek, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Eva Woods, and granddaughter of the late Elmer and Marie Barkley and William and Zona Woods. She was also preceded in death by sister, Cathy Sutherland; ex-husband, Wendell Mitchell; uncles and aunts, Roland and Louise Horn, Kenneth and Betty Barkley, William “Tootie” Barkley and Ella Turnbo, Jack and Roxie Woods, Tiny Shaw; and cousin, Ricky Turnbo.

Survivors include daughters, Lisa Foster (Ron) and Karen Horton (Harwell); two grandchildren, Zoe (Micah) and Riggs; brother, David Woods; aunt, Doris Barkley; brothers-in-law, Charles Sutherland and Kendall Mitchell; nephews, Chris and Cody Sutherland; first cousins, Lisa, Rhonda, Kelly, Karen, Janice, Terri, Dianne, Larry, Jeff, and Kenny Wayne, and several great-nieces and nephews.

Deborah was a 1968 graduate of Frank Hughes School in Clifton, Tennessee and went to college in Texas. She worked and lived in Nashville, Tennessee most of her adult life. Deborah enjoyed being raised in the country learning a good hard work ethic from her parents and grandparents, and how to help others and be a good neighbor. She loved her family and loved going to the beach every September for several weeks and spending time with family at the beach and at other times.

Deborah, “Mom,” we hope you enjoy your Heavenly home with no more suffering after your courageous battle with cancer. We will see you again when it is our time to be in Heaven.

Memorial services were held Monday, June 1, 2026, at 2:00 pm with Pastor Rickey Nelson officiating at the Bates-Love Funeral and Cremation Chapel in Waynesboro, TN.

Visitation was Monday, June 1, 2026, from 1:00 pm till 2:00 pm service time at the Bates-Love Funeral and Cremation Chapel in Waynesboro, TN

Those honored to serve as honorary pallbearers include Ron Foster, Harwell Horton, David Woods, Charles Sutherland, Roger Smith, Riggs Horton, Chris Sutherland, Cody Sutherland, Doug Kincaid, Tim Kincaid, Brandon Kincaid, Larry Horn, Jeff Barkley and Kenny Barkley.
