Cora Sue "Nanny" Hall Lee

Posted

Cora Sue “Nanny” Hall Lee relocated to heaven on April 13, 2025, at the abundant age of 85, in Pulaski, TN. She was born on September 13, 1939, in the Houston community of Wayne County.

Nanny was one of a kind and the matriarch of a large family that she loved to talk about and spend time with. Nanny's “gift of gab” served her well in her role as Director of Admissions on Hospital Hill. For over 40 years she was the familiar face that met people in a time of fear and panic who was able to cover them in comfort, care, and compassion. Throughout her life, Nanny spent countless hours digging in the dirt and growing beautiful flowers; her testimony tells us, that is where she came to know Jesus as her Savior! Baking was Nanny's love language. She was forever blessing her friends and family with brownies, date balls, or her locally famous rum cake. In her later years, she would call and have you stop by for a “quick” visit to pick up your tasty treats. Fun fact about our Nanny, she had the very unique gift of being able to cure oral thrush. Folklore tells that a child born after the father's death (born posthumously) gives that child the ability to blow in the mouth of infants/children and heal oral thrush. Superstitious people brought their children to Nanny at the hospital and in later years, drove them to see her in Pulaski.

Sue Lee was preceded in death by her parents, Mal Hall and Mary Hall Melson; cherished granddaughter (born on her birthday), Stephanie Darlene Lee; and daughter-in-law, Wendy Lee. Sue Lee is survived by three sons, Ricky (Tracy) Lee of Collinwood, Randy Lee of Elizabethton, and Ronny (Letha) Lee of Pulaski, TN. Ten grandchildren survive: Kim Lee, Cassie Lee, Cayla Adkins, Savannah (Derek) Malone, Karlee Lee, Maggie (Conner) Perkins, Mckinley Lee, Mary Taylor “Boo” Lee, Amber (Josh) Murphy, Austin Hicks. Eighteen great-grandchildren survive: Lexie, Lane, Dawson, Kaine, Lyric, Kohen, Peyton, Brynlee, Emmy, Beckham, Paisley, Raedyn, Tylee, Renlee, Silas, Goldie, Jentezen, and Arlo.

Nanny's friends and family gathered to celebrate her life at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Waynesboro on Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 10am-12pm. Ministers officiating were Pastor Greg Eaton and Kevin Wells. In lieu of flowers, Nanny requested that donations be made to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, 2200 Children's Way, Nashville, TN 37232.
