After their first scheduled game with McEwen High School was canceled due to dangerous weather, the combined WCHS/CHS coed soccer team started their 2025 season with an away game at Adamsville on March 6th. Wayne County was missing starting goalie Brandon Gray and defender Ixaya Gonzales due to illness. Adamsville was more experienced, and was ahead 6-0 by half-time. Wayne County benefited from the first half experience, and played better in the second half. Final score was 9-0 Adamsville. Backup goalie Ethan Dinges played well with numerous saves.
The team played their first district game on Tuesday against Richland, and travel to Waverly on Thursday for a 6:00 game. Next week they travel to Culleoka on Tuesday and host new district opponent Battle Creek on Thursday. Both games are at 6:00.
This year’s team has 11 players returning from last year and four new players. Seniors are Gage Pope, Leland Parrish, Jayden Franks, and Elijah Shelton. Juniors are Daygen Smith, Brandon Gray, and Zane Gallaher. Sophomores are Brent Campfield, Ixaya Gonzales, Robert Moreno, Ethan Dinges, and Mackinzie Smith. Freshmen are Eli Campfield, Layla Davis, and Dustin Smith. Head coach is Harvey Baker, with assistant coach Carlee Parrish. Shannon Franks is the team photographer.
