Paving projects and improvements are underway in the City of Waynesboro, and everyone can agree the city streets and City Park are getting in better shape than ever. Workers above are pictured on Old Hog Creek Road inside the Waynesboro city limits, pouring asphalt in preparation to make a smooth driving service with no more potholes or bumps.
All or part of city streets in the western section of the city are set to be repaved in this cycle, including Hog Creek Road, Old Hog Creek Road, Poplar Street, Grimes Street, Pine Street, McWilliams Street, Copeland Drive, Luna Street, Hollis Street, Turman Street, Hill Street, Mathis Street, Matthews Street, Morrow Street, and Greeson Street.
Also set to receive asphalt are some of the parking and walking areas at the Waynesboro City Park that have never before been paved, only gravel. The improvements will make a big difference in the park’s appearance and convenience for visitors.
The cost of this spring’s paving is estimated to come in around $600,000.00. State grant funds will cover $415,000.00, while the City of Waynesboro will pick up the tab on the remaining $185,000.00. “Keeping our infrastructure of city streets and the City Park updated and easily drivable is very important to our citizens,” said one city official. “We decided some time ago that any available funds in the city’s budget not already committed elsewhere should be used for our infrastructure - the “bones” that hold our city together.”
The cost estimate for the street paving was based on 1.5-inch compacted hot mix plus a small amount of leveling and patching for each street.
Another project nearing completion is the new water tank located on Andrew Jackson drive. It is projected that the new tank will be online by late June.
