Chuck Koblentz, Managing Director of Jukebox Media LLC, owners of the Waynesboro radio station WWON, announced on Monday that the radio station has been sold! Southern Broadcasting LLC, led by Mike Brandt, has signed a letter of intent to purchase WWON AM-FM and W224EC. Southern Broadcasting owns stations in Northern Alabama and Mississippi.

“It has been a terrific 11 years,” said Koblentz. “However, at 72 years old, it’s time for me to step away from the mic and hang up the headsets.” Koblentz says he plans to relax and work on his hot rod station wagon.

Chuck Koblentz has spent 54 years in radio. He said that his goal was always to own his own station. He made that dream come true when he purchased WWON in August of 2011, and he and his wife Carol made the move to Waynesboro in 2015. Since moving to Waynesboro, Chuck has been an active member of the community, becoming a member of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce and serving a term as President. He was also a member of the Rotary Club, and received the 2019 Good Scout Award from the Middle Tennessee Council – Boy Scouts of America.

Pending FCC approval and other paperwork, the sale of the station is expected to close in the next 60 to 90 days. Listeners will certainly miss hearing Chuck’s voice coming through their radio speakers, but he is sure to enjoy his hard-earned retirement. Congratulations to Chuck on 54 great years in radio!
