A special ceremony honoring those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country will be held on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29th, at 11:00 a.m. on the courthouse lawn in Waynesboro. This program is held annually to honor American military personnel who gave the supreme sacrifice to keep our nation free, and to ensure that we the people will continue to have the rights and freedoms granted to us by the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution.<\/p>\n
The ceremony, hosted each year by American Legion Posts 130 and 254 from Waynesboro and Collinwood at the veterans\u2019 monument at the southwest corner of the courthouse on the square, will feature greetings and remarks from officials including Wayne County Executive Jim Mangubat. American Legion Post 130 Commander and Veterans Service Officer Ron Pulley will deliver the address.<\/p>\n
The monument on the square pays tribute to those who died during the days of trying times of war at home and abroad from World War I, World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam. Memorial Day recognizes veterans that gave their all for their country.<\/p>\n
The Roll of Honor will be read at Monday\u2019s event, which includes the names of all Wayne County service men and service women who perished during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The names of Wayne County veterans who have passed away since Memorial Day 2022 will be read as well.<\/p>\n
The ceremony will conclude with the placement of a wreath on the Veterans\u2019 Memorial, followed by a 21-gun salute, the playing of \u201cTaps\u201d by the Wayne County High School Band, and the raising of the national colors by the American Legion Honor Guard.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
